Does OU have a math placement test? ›

Based on a student's submitted academic information, The University of Oklahoma may require an ALEKS Mathematics Placement Assessment, Accuplacer Reading Placement Assessment, and/or English Placement Assessment to determine readiness for various courses.

A score of 30 or higher reflects that a student is adequately prepared for college-level mathematics. Higher level scores representative an adequate preparedness for higher level courses.

Is a placement test hard? Placement tests aren't necessarily hard. These exams primarily cover the Algebra that you learned in high school, so whether or not they are hard depends on how well you did in Algebra.

You can't fail a placement test for college. If you receive a low score, you'll be placed in developmental classes for that subject to help increase your knowledge of the topic before you advance to more rigorous courses.

You can expect the Basic Math Placement Test to cover arithmetic and pre-algebra skills. An Algebra Test is generally given as a separate portion of the basic test. Some incoming students will be given an Advanced Mathematics Placement Test, which includes college algebra, geometry and trigonometry.

So, study for them the same way you'd study for any other test because they'll determine which courses you'll take when you start college. It's better that you score and place well to begin with, rather than having to take remedial courses before you can enroll in your desired courses.

As for what is considered a good Math score, it varies depending on which colleges you're considering. A score above the national average (which is around 520) is decent, but targeting a score above 650 would typically be advantageous for competitive college admissions.

ALEKS scores of 30 or higher reflect adequate preparation for college-level math. ALEKS scores cannot be interpreted in the same way as exam grades.

You can't fail a placement exam, but the results may determine you are not ready to take college-level classes right away. If that happens, don't panic! Some schools offer a re-take; if you want to try again, give it a shot.

Can you use a calculator on a college placement test? ›

There are some questions that allow you to use an onscreen calculator; these questions will have a calculator icon in the top-right corner of the screen. You're not allowed to bring a physical calculator into the test center or use handheld calculators on any ACCUPLACER Math test.

NOTE: Students must have an ACT Math of 30 or SAT Math of 690 to receive a calculated placement of PL3. High School GPA is not used to determine PL3 placement. Challenging your PL3 placement: Since PL3 is the highest placement, challenging this placement is not an option.

ALEKS is an online exam consisting of 25 – 30 open-ended questions covering a variety of math topics. The exact number of questions will vary because of the adaptive format. There is no time limit for ALEKS, but you should allow a minimum of 90 minutes to complete your exam.
