Primodrial Malzeno's Gunlance, the Silver Sploder, opens up several build options thanks to its 3 Lv 4 Slots and Lv 8 Normal Shelling. It can be used as a general build in Anomaly Investigations thanks to its boosted recovery when under Bloodblight. It has lower raw compared to its competition, but its Dragon element can make it stand out when hunting monsters weak to it. Heaven-Sent is still a must-have to sharpen without needing to sheathe and to reload quickly. Redirection and Intrepid Heart help with maintaining the buff. Frenzied Bloodlust allows for up to four Wirebugs at once, which lets us use Silkbinds like Reverse Blast and Bullet Barrage as much as possible. Bullet Barrage overcomes Bloodlust's Frenzy fairly quickly, making it a solid choice for the build. Reverse Blast is key to this build for its iframes and as a quick way to fire off a Burst Fire/Full Burst. Hellfire Cloak is included to drop hellfire to topple monsters and deal extra damage. Since using Reverse Blast toward monsters allows you to reach their back at times, Sneak Attack is also added to boost shelling damage. |

Best Skills for Gunlance
Best Damage Skills
These skills make it possible to deal extra damage! Aim for these skills for maximum DPS to defeat those monsters easier and finish those quests faster!
Best Skills | Explanation |
---|---|
Artillery ★★★ | Artillery boosts Gunlance's shelling damage, making it a staple for any gunlance build. |
Weakness Exploit ★★★ | A staple skill for any meta build. Increases your affinity when hitting weak spots by 50% at max rank, increasing your DPS significantly. |
Attack Boost ★★★ | Increases attack power. Max this out as much as possible or aim for at least 4 levels. |
Critical Boost ★★ | Amplifies critical strike damage. Useful for amplifying the damage of your Gunlance Thrust moves. |
Hellfire Cloak ★★ | A fun-to-have skill that synergizes well with the Reverse Blast move, allowing you to deal extra damage. It can also topple a monster, which can create an opening for you and your team! |
Sneak Attack ★★ | Attacking from behind a monsters increases attack power and the Gunlance's shelling power. This skill is useful when you can consistently do a Blast Dash or a Reverse Blast. |
Powder Mantle ★★ | This skill from the Risen Teostra Armor provides the Gunlance with additional blast damage every time it activates, contributing greatly to DPS. Available in Sunbreak Free Title Update 3 |
Bloodlust ★★ | Overcome the Frenzy Virus to power up with this skill; best paired with Coalescence. Available in Sunbreak Base Game |
Frostcraft ★ | This skill from the Velkhana Armor Set buffs up attacks, especially doing a Bullet Barrage right after unsheathing. Consider this skill when using a shelling playstyle. Available in Sunbreak Free Title Update 4 |
Best Comfort Skills
These are skills that make managing weapon mechanics a lot easier. Damage is only part of the equation - taking time to slot in comfort skills that increase consistency & comfort will also increase overall DPS!
Best Skills | Explanation |
---|---|
Load Shells ★★★ | Load Shells is amazing because it bumps your Gunlance's ammo capacity by one. This seemingly minor addition can mean the difference regarding damage. |
Wirebug Whisperer ★★★ | This skill will allow you to access your Silkbind attacks more often. Useful especially for the Bullet Barrage playstyle. |
Speed Sharpening ★★★ | Gunlances lose sharpness insanely fast. Manage this by investing in Speed Sharpening as much as possible. |
Heaven-Sent ★★★ | Being able to sharpen without having to sheathe is truly a gift for Gunlances. Redirection is a good skill to pair with this! Available in Sunbreak Free Title Update 5 |
Protective Polish ★★ | An amazing skill that synergizes with Speed Sharpening. Make the most of your re-sharpens by negating sharpness loss for a significant amount of time with this skill. |
Stun Resistance ★★ | Due to the Reverse Blast's and Bullet Barrage's hyper armor, it's a good idea to slot in this skill to avoid getting caught in a bad position while doing these moves. |
Wind Mantle ★★ | This skill from the Risen Kushala Armor will recharge your Wirebugs faster, allowing you to do more Silkbind attacks with the Gunlance. Available in Sunbreak Free Title Update 3 |
Guard ★★ | Gunlances thrive in close-quarter situations. Guard helps you stay in the thick of things by improving your block efficiency. |
Handicraft ★★ | Handicraft is a great skill for Normal Shelling Gunlancers because most viable gunlances for this particular type of playstyle have sharpness bars that can be extended. |
Defiance ★★ | Three levels of this skill prevent most roars, tremors, and winds from interrupting attacks. The Cornerstone Jewel is a level 1 decoration, so slot it in whenever possible! Available in Sunbreak Free Title Update 1 |
Flinch Free ★★ | Useful especially in multiplayer where minor attacks can interrupt your attacks! |
Frenzied Bloodlust ★★ | This skill gives an additional Wirebug when overcoming the Frenzy, allowing you to hold up to 4 Wirebugs! Equip it with Bloodlust to spam Wirebug-heavy moves like Bullet Barrage. Available in Sunbreak Free Title Update 5 |
Intrepid Heart ★ | Whenever the gauge above your health bar is full, this skill can be useful in preventing monster attacks from interrupting your combos. Available in Sunbreak Free Title Update 2 |
Guard Up ★ | Guard Up lets you block unblockable attacks such as elemental beams and certain ultimate attacks. |
Embolden ★ | Further mitigate impact from monster attacks with this skill. Only slot in this skill whenver possible! Available in Sunbreak Free Title Update 2 |
Shock Absorber ★ | Since the Gunlance tends to send allied hunters flying with explosions, having this on while in Multiplayer is a must. Otherwise, this skill can be ignored in favor of others. Available in Sunbreak Free Title Update 5 |
